CLI Superpower: A TPM’s Guide to Terminal Productivity

As a Technical Program Manager, I find myself straddling two worlds daily — the business landscape of roadmaps and stakeholder conversations, and the technical realm where implementation details matter. At times, it can be overwhelming trying to disambiguate strategy and vision with technical planning and execution. But I found my flow. My secret weapon in navigating this intersection? The command line.

What started as a necessity has evolved into something that feels like a superpower. It began when I changed from a Window's laptop to a MacBook Pro and simply wanted to get my OneNotes on my new laptop. As I couldn’t use the Microsoft server at the time, I needed a different way to access all my notes. I searched for a solution and found ConvertOneNote2MarkDown on GitHub. What seemed like a task that would take ages took just a few minutes. This was my “aha” moment.

There’s something deeply satisfying about executing a single command that would take minutes through a GUI. That instant feedback loop, the ability to chain tools together, and the sheer efficiency have transformed how I work. Note: I’ve added GenAI with MCP Servers, but I'll save that for a separate article.
